Websites must look great at any size
Progressive Enhancement
Remember that days of Internet 1.0 when it was acceptable to develop a site in Flash and force users to download the plugin before viewing? I don’t know about you, but we feel like those days are from a past life! Today, we develop sites so that they’re beautiful on desktop computers, smart phones and now, iPads, readers and the likes. Obviously, a site that is developed for a 20 inch display isn’t going to look good on a phone; and a site designed for a phone isn’t going to look good on a 20 inch display. The solution for this debacle is referred to as, Progress Enhancement (PE). When developing a PE site, we begin with the website's primary user environment (most often a desktop computer) and then build in a software intelligence that detects what type of device is accessing the site so that the site can adjust and scale to display best on that specific device. For example, our PE software detects a visitor coming to the site from a mobile phone, we manipulate the content to look best on the phone, same goes for the iPad. Website animations designed in Flash or Java (specifically tailored to the desktop user experience) are replaced with static images on an iPad to ensure that our client’s brand integrity is never compromised. There seems to be a new web-surfing device that hits the market every couple of months, so it is more important then ever to make sure that your brand is successfully communicated on all types of mobile devices.
